DICKENS’ CHRISTMAS TOWNE is an interactive holiday experience on the Downtown Norfolk waterfront. Cobblestone paths and candlelit windows, the smell of freshly-baked treats and the sound of carolers. Just as visitors in Williamsburg encounter colonial townspeople, guests strolling down London’s Drury Lane will bump into Bob Cratchit, his young son Tiny Tim, and other characters from the play. A “prize turkey” hangs in the window of the Poulterer’s on the corner. Meanwhile, London shop owners sell cider and scones, ornaments, children’s books, toy trains and teddy bears. An amazing model train display will wind through 20-foot-high set pieces. Children will actually be encouraged to “play in the streets” as they look for hidden clues and learn more about holiday traditions.
