May 23-26 - 2014 Langley Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show, Hosted by the Gloucester and Langley Kennel Clubs. Hampton Roads Convention Center, Hampton. Hosted by the Gloucester and Langley Kennel Clubs, this highly anticipated event is expected to draw over 4,000 spectators and 1,500 dogs. This year's highlights will include four days of obedience trials, four days' worth of AKC RallyR, and a free Junior Showmanship clinic. The event will feature over 30 vendors offering unique pet merchandise not generally available in the Hampton Roads region.
May 24 - Yorktown Market Days. Chischiak Green, Water Street, Yorktown, 8 am - 12 pm. Fresh produce, meat and seafood, baked goods, coffee, specialty cut flowers, quality art, entertainment and much more await you at the Saturday morning Market Days. This week's live entertainment is by "Ron Fetner". Free.
May 24 - Contraband Day Commemorative Event, Cannon Park, Fort Monroe. A day of activities commemorating 153rd anniversary of the 'Contraband Decision' at Fort Monroe. Living history tours, and children's activities at the Casemate Museum feature the children's book "Under the Freedom Tree" by Susan VanHecke and illustrated by London Ladd. Opening ceremony at 10 am at Cannon Park Living history walking tours begin at Cannon Park at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm. Tours are approximately 45 minutes. Children's activities at the Casemate Museum begin at 12:30 pm.
May 24 - Family Great Adventure Series. All about Discovery and Entertainment at the Virginia Beach oceanfront! Families can take part in an interactive adventure that leads them to various sites along the boardwalk and Atlantic Avenue to unravel a mystery. Sometimes the adventures involve games and contests right on the beach. During each adventure, participants can dress up as characters, use "brain and brawn" to win the contest at hand, and settle into the sand for a family-friendly movie shown on a giant inflatable screen on the beach!
May 24 - Hampton Downtown Block Party, Queens Way, Downtown Hampton, 6-11 pm. Folk-rock, rockabilly surf band from Russia and California, the Red Elvises have 11 studio albums. Also featuring The Judy Chops, roots band from Shenandoah with a that mixes vintage and modern for a raucous time. Join the party in Downtown Hampton every Saturday night, with live music on Queens Way between Kings Way and Wine St.
May 24 - 35th Annual Elizabeth River Run. ERR will be held on the exciting and scenic course in Portsmouth, Virginia. With magnificent views of the Elizabeth River, participants will traverse through Olde Towne with its towering monuments, museums, historical homes and the Portsmouth sea wall. Following the race will be a post-race celebration at the spectacular nTelos Pavilion.

May 24-25 - 2014 Pungo Strawberry Festival is held on Memorial Day weekend. This year we are estimating attendance of 120,000 over the two day event. May 24-26 - 11th Annual Steel Pier Classic & Surf Art Expo, sponsored by Coastal Edge. The Virginia Longboard Federation (VLF) gets together every Memorial Day Weekend at the best surfing destination in Virginia Beach, affectionately known as The Jetty to promote the art of surfing. Through the efforts of this organization, The VLF has generated a dynamic surfing contest that is a fun, family atmosphere for people to enjoy from all over the country. The name of the contest is derived from the Virginia Beach Steel Pier, which was located at the Va. Beach Oceanfront's very own First Street, circa the 1960's. May 25 - Big Bands on the Bay, featuring The Terry Chessen Orchestra. End the weekend with a sunset celebration on the Chesapeake Bay. Guests are invited down to the Gazebo at Ocean View Beach Park for live Big Band music and dancing. Welcome the stars every Sunday night from 7pm to 9pm.
May 26 - 130th Portsmouth Memorial Day Parade. A Portsmouth tradition since 1884. Annually, the Memorial Day Parade salutes the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and celebrates Portsmouth's proud military heritage. This year's parade will include floats, marching band units, armed forces units, lots of excitement and much more.

May 26 - Hampton Memorial Day Ceremony, The Hampton National Cemetery (Located On the campus of Hampton University), 10:00-11:00 am. The Department of Veterans Affairs will honor the men and women who paid the ultimate price for the country's freedom with a special Memorial Day Ceremony Monday, May 26, at 10 am at the Hampton National Cemetery, Cemetery Road at Marshall Avenue. Volunteers are needed to help distribute flags to grave sites on Friday, May 23, starting at 8 am. Volunteers will also be needed to take up the flags on Tuesday, May 27, starting at 8 am.
May 26 - Chesapeake Annual Memorial Day Ceremony, 11 a.m. in front of City Hall. The keynote speaker will be Colonel Alberto E. Cruz. This year's ceremony will include a special tribute to Chesapeake's Vietnam War dead. Indian River High School teacher, Craig Blackman and his 45 Advanced Placement United States History students worked on a semester-long project this year to identify and learn more about the 25 Chesapeake veterans who gave their lives during the Vietnam War. These men as well as others who served will be honored at the ceremony. Special music for the program will be provided by the Western Branch High School Band and a piper from the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office. The national anthem will be sung by Kathy Williams. May 26 - Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Day Ceremony, Historic Grace Episcopal Church, 111 Church Street, Yorktown VA , 10-11 am. After some brief remarks, prayers, and playing of "Taps" we will replace the flags of over 70 know veteran's graves. Includes the posting of colors, historical re-enactors (The Fifes and Drums of York Town will perform at 11:45 am), a guest speaker, the placing of flowers, and the presentation of awards to student winners of the "York County Remembers" Poster Essay Contest.
