Sat, July 12 - Smithfield Farmers Market, 9:00 am - 12 noon, the Bank of Southside Virginia parking lot in downtown Smithfield. Named one of the "101 Best Farmers Markets in America" by the DailyMeal.com, Smithfield's Farmers Market is held every Saturday morning from April 5 through October 25. Now in its 14th season, each market features "Virginia Grown" - locally grown produce and items such as: beef, pork, chicken, eggs, peanuts, plants, herbs, baked goods, coffee, cheese, honey, barbecue, wood-fired pizza, ham sandwiches, handcrafted items and live music each week!

Sat, July 12 - Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion. 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, On the Boardwalk between 16th and 18th Streets, at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Chalk the Walk takes over the Virginia Beach Boardwalk as hundreds of artists and "wanna-be artists" gather to turn the boardwalk into an impromptu canvas of color! Artist registration will be on the boardwalk at 17th Street. 200 competitors will complete chalk drawings to be evaluated by a panel of judges from the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach. Judges will score the drawings according to criteria such as composition, use of color, adherence to theme, and creativity. There will be three competitive divisions: Amateur, Professional, and Youth. The Youth division will be for ages 12-16. Children 11 and under will be invited to draw for fun in a separate area. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded for each division. Winners will be announced at 4:30pm at the registration tent. All participants must register by 1:00pm to qualify for the competition. All drawings must be completed by 3:30pm to be eligible for prizes.

Sat, July 12 - "Rolling of the Bulls, 2014", 12:45-3:00 pm, Wine Street & Queens Way, Downtown Hampton. An "oddball" event presented by Marker 20 and sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel. Inspired by the Running of the Bulls, an event that takes place in Spain, Portugal, and some parts of Mexico where festival goers.what else. run with the bulls, the Rolling of the Bulls in Hampton will feature participants running from Dominion Derby Girls on skates with whiffle ball bats. The event begins with the Blessing of the Bulls and then .5 mile run. Each runner MUST wear white with a red scarf and sash (so the girls know exactly who to hit!) and creativity is highly suggested. Individuals must be at least 12 years-old to participate and the cost is free. After the event, come into Marker 20 for "Party on the Deck." The fun includes live music and specialty food and drinks.
Sat, July 12 - "Surf's Up" Exhibition Opening Reception, 6:00 pm, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum, Downtown Portsmouth. Surf's Up, an exhibition focusing on art inspired by surfing featuring several artists who use the ocean, waves, and surfing as their muse. The common thread that runs through this exhibit is that most of the artists are inspired by their respect for the sheer power and energy of a wave.
