Now to June 24 - Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival, 310 Edwin Dr., Virginia Beach. Hours of operation are 6 pm - 11 pm during the week, and 2 pm - 11 pm on the weekends. Rides, games and traditional state fair foods re all available at the Summer Carnival at Mount Trashmore Park. Located in the parking lot off Edwin Drive, the carnival is great for all ages and offers free admission and free parking. Ride prices - Single Tickets: $1 each (each ride takes 2-6 tickets); Monday, Wednesday & Friday: $18 wristband (unlimited rides); Twelve Buck Tuesday: $12 wristband; Dollar Day Thursday: All rides $1 each; Saturday & Sunday: $20 wristband. Games and concession are priced separately.
June 6-7 - Seawall Music Festival. This is Portsmouth’s summer celebration of music along the seawall with free family fun. Daily musical performances by local and regional bands, children’s activities and the East Coast’s largest pyrotechnical show. Free concerts benefit CHIP of Virginia, a non-profit organization responsible for the development of community-based child health and family support programs. June 6 - Langley Air Force Base Heritage of America Band Concert. 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Ft. Monroe, Continental Park. Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of D-Day with an outdoor concert featuring the USAF Heritage of America Band. Patriotic music along with ’40s big band sounds.
June 6 - Friday Night Adventures. Newport News Park Discovery Center, 13560 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News. Every Friday, meet a park naturalist to discover facts about some of the park’s natural and historical features. Programs include nature walks, video presentations and/or hands on activities. June 6 - Dinosaurs Family Camp-in, Virginia Living Museum, Newport News. Camp out overnight at the Virginia Living Museum to learn about all things astronomy and dinosaurs. Explore the Dinos Live exhibit. Visit the Abbitt Observatory for some live stargazing (weather permitting), check out a great planetarium show, and make some cool crafts and more. June 7 - Great Dismal Swamp Safari. Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, 9:30 am - 1:30pm. $10 adults; $8 seniors (60+), military, and children ages 3-12. The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. The narrated Swamp Safari, one of Suffolk’s most popular attractions, fills up quickly. This four-hour tour is led by a biologist specializing is the unique habitat of the Great Dismal. Learn about the history, lore, vegetation and wildlife with this adventure that includes a brief walk to Lake Drummond. Sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. A small snack and beverage is provided. This tour is not recommended for very small children. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour. June 7 - Suffolk Farmers’ Market, at the Pavilion, 524 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434 (At the corner of Constance Rd. & Main St. in Historic Downtown Suffolk), 9 am - 1 pm. The Suffolk Farmers’ Market is a popular outlet for locally grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, organically raised poultry, fresh eggs and milk, honey and a variety of artisan-crafted goods. Free and open to the public, the Market will host a variety of Family Fun Days, special guest speakers and performers, petting zoos, book signings, workshops, crafts and more. June 7 - Hampton Crabtown Environmental Expo. 10:00 am - 4:30 pm, Sandy Bottom Nature Park. This event is presented by the Virginia Cooperative Extension-Hampton Office. Workshops, talks, and exhibits will be based on water quality, seafood of the bay, storm water pollution, pet waste solutions, sea level rise, VA deep-sea red crab, and much more. Some of the exhibitors that will take part in this event are: Virginia Tech Seafood AREC, Hampton Clean City Commission, VCE-Hampton 4-H Program, Hampton VCE Master Gardeners, Hampton Roads Solar Group, and many more! There will be vendors, door prizes, food, and children’s activities.

June 7 - Chesapeake FUNFEST 2014, Chesapeake City Park, 900 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, VA. Event Opens at 6 pm, FREE Movie - “The Goonies” at 8:30 pm. Start the summer off with a FUNfest. June 7 - Hayrides, Newport News Park Discovery Center, 7-9 pm, 13560 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News. Enjoy park interpretation and discussion on this 40 minute ride through the campground and bikeway. Complimentary tickets are available at the Campsite Office 30 minutes prior to each ride. June 8 - 16th Annual Phelps Brothers Music Festival, 12:00 - 6:00 pm, Lakeside Park, 1441 Bainbridge Boulevard, Chesapeake, VA. This annual festival celebrates the music careers of local legends Norman, Willie, & Earl Phelps. They have starred on stage, screen, radio, television, and recording throughout their careers. June 8 - Big Bands on the Bay. End the weekend with a sunset celebration on the Chesapeake Bay. Guests are invited down to the Gazebo at Ocean View Beach Park for live Big Band music and dancing with ‘Glen Boswick and the Sounds of Swing’. Welcome the stars every Sunday night from 7pm to 9pm.
