It’s a Halloween tradition at the Chrysler to have our Gallery Hosts mark the day by dressing up as their favorite works of art from our collection. Last year, with our main building closed for renovations, it largely fell to our Historic Houses crew to carry the baton. Sat, Nov 1 - Great Bridge Lock Park Canoe/Kayak Ribbon Cutting, 10:00 am, 100 Locks Road, Chesapeake. Join us as we officially open the City’s first fully ADA-accessible Canoe/Kayak Pier and Launch in the Great Bridge Lock Park. This pier was fully funded by the National Park Service and is currently the only one of its kind in the region. Being a separate amenity from the boat ramp, this new launch pier enhances user safety and includes step-by-step operational instructions for users placed along the dock. Wed, Nov 5 - New Orleans Legends featuring Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Allen Toussaint: Oh Yeah! Tour, Ferguson Center for the Arts, 7:00 pm, 1 Avenue of the Arts, Newport News. Preservation Hall was founded in 1961 to promote traditional New Orleans jazz in all its authenticity. Legendary players like George Lewis, Sweet Emma Barrett and Kid Thomas Valentine, all rooted in the formative years jazz, were its original stars and performed nightly in a tiny space located in the historic French Quarter. While that generation is long gone, the hall is still in business, the music is still performed and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band continues to tour the world. Fronting the band at this time is Allen Toussaint, one of the most influential figures in New Orleans R&B. An American musician, songwriter and record producer, Toussaint has crossed paths with many of music’s greats in his illustrious 40-year-plus career.
