Now to June 24 - Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival, 310 Edwin Dr., Virginia Beach. Hours of operation are 6 pm - 11 pm during the week, and 2 pm - 11 pm on the weekends. Rides, games and traditional state fair foods re all available at the Summer Carnival at Mount Trashmore Park. Located in the parking lot off Edwin Drive, the carnival is great for all ages and offers free admission and free parking. Ride prices - Single Tickets: $1 each (each ride takes 2-6 tickets); Monday, Wednesday & Friday: $18 wristband (unlimited rides); Twelve Buck Tuesday: $12 wristband; Dollar Day Thursday: All rides $1 each; Saturday & Sunday: $20 wristband. Games and concession are priced separately.

June 11 - Suffolk Farmers' Market, at the Pavilion, 524 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434 (At the corner of Constance Rd. & Main St. in Historic Downtown Suffolk), Wed: 3-6 pm; Sat: 9 am - 1 pm. The Suffolk Farmers' Market is a popular outlet for locally grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, organically raised poultry, fresh eggs and milk, honey and a variety of artisan-crafted goods. Free and open to the public, the Market will host a variety of Family Fun Days, special guest speakers and performers, petting zoos, book signings, workshops, crafts and more. June 11 - Spring Lecture Series: William Tsutsui on his book, Godzilla on My Mind-Fifty Years of the King of Monsters, at The Mariners' Museum/USS Monitor Center, 7 pm. One of the premiere lecture series in Hampton Roads, The Mariners' Museum Lecture Series offers Museum members and Hampton Roads residents dynamic and memorable stories of mankind's relationship with the sea. June 11 - Virginia Health Services Presents: Live on the Square at Port Warwick, Loftest Blvd., Newport News, VA, 6 pm. Enjoy the summer night air on Styron Square listening to the area's best music - This week: Jae Sinnett Jazz Trio. The concerts are free and all are welcome! Bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, food and drink, or enjoy the music from one of the Port Warwick restaurant patios!

June 12 - Farmers' Market at City Center, City Center at Oyster Point, 700 Town Center Dr., Newport News, 10 am - 2 pm. A collection of products that are straight from the farm! Includes locally grown fruits and vegetables, seafood, plants, herbs, baked goods, free range chickens, pork, bison, bath products, fresh bread and dog treats. Also available are dairy products, such as cheese, goat's cheese, milk, bath products, fresh bread and eggs. Come see what we have to offer!

June 12 - Sunset on the River, Hermitage Museum & Gardens, N. Shore Rd., Norfolk, 6 - 9 pm. Every other Thursday in May and June, the Hermitage hosts a local concert. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Cash bar-no outside alcohol allowed. Food will also be available for purchase. Come enjoy live music on the back lawn of the Hermitage! This week, Major and the Monbacks have revived the party infused energy of southern soul, blending this old school style with danceable pop melodies, ska, and soul horn riffs. 

June 12 - Thursdays by the Lake, The Mariners' Museum/USS Monitor Center, 100 Museum Dr., Newport News, VA, 6 pm. Join the museum for its annual concert series on the banks of Lake Maury, overlooking the full-scale replica of the Civil War ironclad USS Monitor. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy live music by Borderline Crazy. Adult beverages, soft drinks and food for sale.

June 12 - Poetry Night, Peninsula Fine Arts Center, Newport News. 6 pm, FREE. Delight in the spoken word at PFAC's monthly Poetry Night, offered at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month. Area writers Leah Price, Felicia Mason, Terri Osburn and Elvy Howard will share readings from their fiction works. Anyone is welcome to share poems, both original and old favorites, in a welcoming, artful atmosphere!

June 12 - "Shagging on the Riverwalk" Beach Music Concert Series, 331 Water Street, Yorktown, VA, 6:30 pm. June 12-15 - Virginia MOCA's Boardwalk Art Show, presented by PNC Bank, Thu: noon-8 pm, Fri: 10 am-6 pm, Sat: 10 am-6 pm, Sun: 10 am-5 pm. The Boardwalk Art Show is one of the oldest and most respected outdoor fine art shows on the Eastern seaboard, and this summer will mark our 59th year. This four-day festival is one of the most popular in Virginia, attracting collectors and artists from across the nation (300 in fact!) with an average attendance of more than 250,000. The show runs along the Virginia Beach boardwalk from 19th Street to 33rd Street, overlooking the sandy beach and Atlantic Ocean. This year we're giving families a special day at the Boardwalk. Come celebrate Family Fest on Saturday, June 14th all day at 24th Street Park where you can create, explore, be entertained and most of all, have fun boardwalk style.  And for those of you looking to keep the fun going, visit us at 31st Street Park for Boardwalk Art Show On Tap. June 13 - The Annual "Professional Shrine Rodeo", Khedive Shrine Center, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA. The Rodeo is a Professional Championship Rodeo sanctioned by the Southern Rodeo Association. There will be calf roping, bucking horses, barrel racing, bull riding, and the Rodeo Clowns. Free concerts benefit CHIP of Virginia, a non-profit organization responsible for the development of community-based child health and family support programs. June 13 - Watermen's Museum presents "The Virginia Symphony with A Star Spangled Spectacular Concert,"  Watermen's Museum, 309 Water Street, Yorktown, VA, 7:00 pm. June 13-14:  27th Annual Cock Island Race.  Known as the largest sailing event on the East Coast. Several classes of sailboats race up and down the Elizabeth River, but the race is not just for professionals. Causal boaters hit the water, too. The race kicks off with concerts and food Friday night and ends Saturday evening with an awards ceremony and more live music.

June 14:  Life's a Beach Triathlon, Buckroe Beach and Park, Hampton.  Life's A Beach encourages people to "catch the new wave of triathlon," with its unique take on a sport most people often associate with grueling training regimes and expensive, high-tech equipment. The Life's A Beach swim is 200 yards of "Almost Anything Goes," with racers allowed to use boogie boards, swim fins, mask and snorkels, water wings, and almost anything else to help them feel comfortable and have fun. The bike portion of the race is only five miles and is for fat tire bikes only-beach cruisers and mountain bikes-as some courses may actually involve stretches of beach riding. The two-mile beach run is laid back and includes some of the Life's A Beach challenges-obstacles to break up the run in a fun way. Awards will be given to the Top Dudes and Dudettes, Top Slackers, Most Bodacious Bike Decorating, and Coolest Costume. There will be an Awards Ceremony and Bodacious Beach Bash After-Party following the event. Hours: 8:00am - 2:00 pm
