Now thru Oct 30 - Tales of Hampton: Horror Stories Tours, Hampton History Museum, 7 - 8:00 pm, 120 Old Hampton Ln., Hampton. These 60 minute tours include eerie tales of Old Hampton and the Tidewater area. Guided by historian Michael Cobb, you will meet the first witch recorded in America, ghosts of Civil War soldiers, pirates from Blackbeard’s Crew, a speakeasy proprietor, escaped prisoners, yellow fever victims, and more characters from the city’s tales of mystery and the macabre. Each tour will include the grisly side of Hampton’s history; special surprises and a spooky lantern tour of the St. John’s Church graveyard, and other points of fright along Queen Street and around downtown Hampton. All are welcomed to help clean up Huntington Beach and Ragged Island Wildlife Management Area. We will clean and remove trash first, enjoy some lunch second, and have an opportunity to get on the water third. The James River Association will provide you with everything you need to remove trash, so you just need to bring yourself, make sure to wear warm, protective clothes. We will also provide lunch after the cleanup, and will have canoes available to enjoy later on in the afternoon, feel free to also bring your own canoe/kayak/stand up paddleboard. Meet at Huntington Beach no later than 11 am the morning of, you will see signs when you enter the park. We will then distribute cleaning materials and spread out between the two locations on either side of the James River Bridge.
