Now thru June - Bike Nights, Norfolk Botanical Garden, Mon/Wed/Thu 4 - 7:00 pm, 6700 Azalea Garden Road, Norfolk. Bring your bikes, helmets and family or friends out to Norfolk Botanical Garden and pedal through the petals. Norfolk Botanical Garden is home to 12 miles of pedestrian pathways. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. they are open to bikers! Regular Garden admission applies.

Now thru Jun 23 - Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival, 6 - 11:00 pm during the week, and 2 - 11:00 pm on the weekends, 310 Edwin Drive, Virginia Beach. Rides, games and traditional state fair foods re all available at the Summer Carnival at Mount Trashmore Park. Now thru Jul 26 - ‘Above the Fold’ Exhibit, Hermitage Museum & Gardens, 7637 North Shore Road, Norfolk. See the Hermitage completely transformed for our spring exhibit. Wander through the various rooms of the Sloane mansion to discover innovative origami from nine internationally-acclaimed artists.

Now thru Jul 26 - Frank Lloyd Wright’s Samara, Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center, 400 High Street, Portsmouth. The Samara house, also known as John E. Christian House, was built between 1954 and 1956 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The exhibition explores the creation of a Wright house through the eyes of a client who spent more than fifty years fulfilling the renowned architect’s Usonian vision. Wright used the term “organic” to convey his belief that every feature of the house, from the structure, to the interior, to the smallest details and objects, should be as one, expressive of a single idea.

The USA Gymnastics Xcel Program is a program offered as an alternative program for competitive gymnasts.  Awards include division age group placement awards and division age group all-around awards. Fri-Sun, May 29-31 - The Patriot Running Festival,  Fri 6:30 pm 5K Run/Walk, Sat 7:00 am 8K Run/Walk, Sun 7:00 am Half Marathon, Williamsburg. Events take place throughout downtown Williamsburg, the campus of the College of W&M, Colonial Williamsburg, and surrounding areas. The 5K on the campus of the College of William & Mary is the first leg of the weekend-long Patriot Running Festival. The 8K run/walk, beginning at the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitors Center, winds through the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg and finishes in William and Mary’s Zable Stadium. Tue, Jun 2 - Memorial Service, Chrysler Museum of Art, 6 - 7:00 pm, One Memorial Place, Norfolk. The Chrysler Museum of Art will host a public memorial service for Amy Brandt. Our McKinnon Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art died May 15 after a lengthy illness. Doors open at 5:30 pm for the 6 pm remembrance ceremony in our Kaufman Theater. The service will be followed by a reception in the galleries she inspired. Refreshments will be served and music will be provided by DJ P & Mr T.

The 2015 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition will feature large-scale work by Robert Cage, whose curated farmland became a well-known destination in South Boston, Virginia. Fri, Jun 5 - Exhibit Reception: The Architect Within - Peter Weber, Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center, 5:00 pm, 400 High Street, Portsmouth. Weber was an apprentice at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and a member of Taliesin Fellowship from 1981 – 1990. During his time at Taliesin he produced an extensive portfolio of drawings to include plans, elevations, and perspectives as well as graphics or “nature patterns” and other designs. A select group of these works will be featured.

Christian House, was built between 1954 and 1956 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The exhibition explores the creation of a Wright house through the eyes of a client who spent more than fifty years fulfilling the renowned architect’s Usonian vision.

Sat, May 30 - Asian-American History Month Film Fest: "The Silent Glory", Virginia War Museum, 1:00 pm, 9285 Warwick Boulevard in Huntington Park, Newport News. The museum will host a film festival during the month of May featuring films with depicting Asian-Americans’ in the military.  All movies are free with each day’s paid admission. "The Silent Glory" - During World War II, many young Japanese Americans from internment camps volunteered to fight for the country that had turned its back on them. Yet the 442nd Regimental Combat Team would go on to become one of the most decorated units in U.S. military history. General Mark Clark said of them: “Best damn fighters in the U.S. Army. Send me more!” Their rescue of the lost battalion is considered one of the greatest missions of the war.
