Fourth of July Celebrations in Tidewater Virginia


Local Tidewater July 4th Events & Concerts:

 Wed, Jul 1 - Independence Concert: TRADOC Concert Band, Merchants' Square, 7 - 8:15 pm, Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg. Join us in the Square for an annual patriotic tradition! We will be treated to a concert of traditional favorites and modern compositions by the TRADOC Concert Band from The United States Army Training and Doctrine Command of Ft. Eustis, Virginia. The Concert is Free. Please bring a lawn chair.


 Fri, Jul 3 - Fourth of July, Colonial Williamsburg, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Williamsburg. Celebrate the anniversary of the nation's birth in the Revolutionary City! Join Colonial Williamsburg for a special militia muster. Enjoy a salute to the 13 original states, featuring music performed by the Fifes and Drums, flags of each state, the firing of muskets and cannon. The day concludes with fireworks visible from both Market Square and Palace Green.

 Fri, Jul 3 - Celebrate Freedom - Concert & Fireworks, Chesapeake City Park, 5:00 pm, 900 City Park Drive, Chesapeake. Free and Open to the Public. On-site parking - $5 per car. Celebrate Freedom in Chesapeake, at Chesapeake City Park, with the U.S. Army TRADOC Command Band from Fort Monroe providing stirring patriotic sounds. Following the concert, fireworks by Pyrotechnico will illuminate the dark sky after sunset. Presenting of the Colors / National Anthem at 7:35 pm, TRADOC Concert at 7:45 pm, Followed by Fireworks at approximately 9:15 pm. Parks, Recreation & Tourism also brings you the best in children's activities and family entertainment:  face painting, a 3-years-and-under play area, giant lawn games, inflatables, and more. Chesapeake Arts Alive! and Fine Arts Commission will offer a silent auction of unique items and a raffle of their famous gift baskets to provide scholarships for Chesapeake's talented students.  Fri, Jul 3 - First Weekend Event: Dinner & A Drive-in Movie "American Graffiti", High Street and Portside, Downtown Portsmouth. Relive the early 60's with "classic car cruisin" along Downtown High Street from 5 pm to 9 pm. Enjoy dining in your favorite Olde Towne Restaurant with dinner specials are available at these participating restaurants: Griffs of Olde Towne, The Bier Garden, P-Town Baron's and Roger Brown's and Humboldt Steel. Parking on High Street will be available for classic cars during these hours. Afterwards, a gathering of classic cars will rendezvous at the Portside Park for a Drive-In style movie, and enjoy the George Lucas classic film "American Graffiti." So bring your blankets and lawn chairs and make it a classic Olde Towne summer night! Gates at the movie open at 8:45 pm. Movie starts at 9:30 pm at the Portside Park next to Tidewater Yacht & Crawford Parkway.

 Fri, Jul 3 - Williamsburg Military Tattoo, 8:30 - 9:00 pm, Palace Green, Colonial Williamsburg. Join us as we celebrate July 4 with patriotic music. Originally a call to soldiers to return to the barracks before curfew, military tattoos became more general displays of entertainment by Army troops. Join us for a thrilling torchlit march featuring the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums.

 Sat, Jul 4 - 35th Annual South Norfolk Parade & Picnic in the Park, Lakeside Park, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, 1441 Bainbridge Boulevard, Chesapeake. This annual event features a parade through Historic South Norfolk beginning at 10 am. Be sure to arrive early as streets will close at 9:30 AM.  Sat, Jul 4 - Newport News 4th of July Stars in the Sky, Victory Landing Park, 7 - 10:00 pm, 23rd St., Newport News. The event begins with free children's rides (giant slides, moon bounces, an obstacle course, face painting) and strolling entertainment.  Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, seafood, hot dogs, hamburgers, and frozen treats. Entertainment will be provided by the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band ensemble Full Spectrum from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. A spectacular fireworks show by the internationally award-winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico, presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries, will light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 pm.

America's Independence is marked with military drills, role-playing demonstrations and artillery throughout Yorktown Victory Center. visitors can observe tactical and artillery drills, take part in a variety of military exercises, and learn about the challenges that faced our nation's founders, including those who signed the Declaration of Independence.
