Thu-Sun, Nov 5-8 - The Governor’s School for the Arts presents: Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451”, the Dalis Black Box Theatre, Thu 7:00 pm, Fri/Sat 8:00 pm, Sun 2:00 pm, 254 Granby Street, Norfolk. Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 is a masterwork of 20th-century literature set in a bleak, dystopian future. Governor’s School for the Arts will perform the play adapted by the author from his original work. Fahrenheit 451 is directed by visiting artist and GSA alum, Jimonn Cole. Scenery, lighting and costumes are by GSA Resident Designer Shawn S. Crawford and projections and sound are by GSA Department Chair, Steve J. Earle. The cast and crew consist entirely of GSA Department of Theatre and Film students.

Fri, Nov 6 - Glass Studio Artist Lecture Series: Jack Wax, Chrysler Museum of Art, 6 - 7:30 pm, One Memorial Place, Norfolk. The Glass Studio guest lecture series welcomes Jack Wax to town for an informal and inspirational talk. An art professor at VCU in Richmond, Mr. Wax is part of a long line of Rhode Island School of Design graduates who have moved on to successful careers. Earlier teaching stops have included Temple University, the Ohio State University, Illinois State University and the Toyama Institute in Japan. In addition to his reputation as a teacher, he’s held in high standing as an artist, and has works on view in museums from Washington to Los Angeles, Istanbul to Taipei. Admission is free. Sat/Sun, Nov 14/15 - Lord Dunmore’s Revenge, Thoroughgood House, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 1636 Parish Rd, Virginia Beach. The American Revolution will come to life at the Thoroughgood House for “Lord Dunmore’s Revenge.” Revolutionary War reenactors from the 7th Virginia Regiment, HMS Otter, and His Majesty’s 14th Regiment of Foot will showcase the local impact of the American Revolution with American and British war encampments. Visitors can interact with the soldiers, see what life was like in camp, and shop from sutlers, the 18th century-style merchants that followed the troops. There will be storylines to follow each day: 11 am on Saturday and Sunday will focus on the British water landing by skiff and the initial raid on the Thoroughgood House for supplies; at 3 pm on Saturday and 1:30 pm on Sunday, a skirmish between the British and the Americans. The Thoroughgood House will be open for visitors to mingle with Lord Dunmore, Mr. and Mrs. Thoroughgood, and other witnesses to the Revolution. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored in part by the Virginia Beach Historic Houses Foundation. It is being held in observance of the 240th anniversary of the Battle of Kemp’s Landing. A reenactment of the Battle of Kemp’s Landing will be held in Kempsville with ceremonies at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2015. Free and ample parking will be available at Thoroughgood Elementary School, 1444 Dunstan Lane. A complimentary shuttle will transport visitors to and from the Thoroughgood House between 9 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
