Fri, Jan 22 - Tidewater Acoustic Music Association Coffeehouse concert: Jim Bulleit, Wesley United Methodist Church, 7:00 pm, 2510 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton. Jim Bulleit began writing songs while an undergraduate at Duke University. Since coming to Virginia to teach English in 1982, he has performed in some of the area’s seedier bars, as well as the oceanfront stage and a variety of festivals. Tue, Jan 26 - Old Coast Guard Station Spyglass Speaker Series: Lightships on the Elizabeth, The History of These Little Known Heroes, Guest Speaker Corey Thornton, Virginia MOCA Auditorium, 7:00 pm, 2200 Parks Avenue, Virginia Beach. Lightships served as aids to navigation in the United States from 1820-1983. Lightships, like lighthouses, were managed by various incarnations of lighthouse agencies over time. A series of images on painted banners tells a story of an event in U.S. history that pitted white Americans against black Americans. The Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 was a massacre confined mainly to the racially segregated Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, from May 31 to June 1, 1921. The Five Points Community Farm Market is a project of the Five Points Partnership, a 501-c-3 non-profit formed in 2001. The Partnership is a grass-roots community organization based in the Norview section of Norfolk. The Farm Market began as a community project in 2002 in a vacant lot across from Norview Middle School, with volunteers selling Rodman’s peanuts and 3 small growers offering produce. We have been located on Church Street since May 3, 2008, and we continue to work to bring the city of Norfolk and surrounding cities fresh produce grown by local small farms, and we are always growing.
