Fri, Feb 5 - Seventh Annual “Her Melody Lingers On” Benefit Concert, Chandler Recital Hall, 7:15 pm, Diehn Center for the Performing Arts, ODU, Norfolk. Join us for the seventh annual “Her Melody Lingers On” concert to benefit the ODU Department of Music scholarship endowment in Claire Cucchiari-Loring’s memory. The event begins at the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts at 7:15 p.m., with a concert in Chandler Recital Hall starting at 8. This year’s concert will be terrific, with jazz piano duets by Justin Kauflin and John Toomey. Justin Kauflin is produced by Quincy Jones, touring internationally and is featured in the documentary “Keep on Keepin On” about Clark Terry. There will be a silent auction before the concert and at intermission, complimentary light refreshments and beverages throughout the evening, and a cash bar. For the last two decades, contemporary jazz keyboardist Alex Bugnon has been a romantic yet energetic force on the contemporary jazz scene - an ambassador from the last days of the Quiet Storm in possession of chameleonic skills befitting him as a straight ahead jazz piano leader and soul as a sideman. After five years away from recording under his own name, Bugnon signed to the jazz division of Narada Records, which marketed him as a jazz artist, and his sixth album, Alex Bugnon…As Promised, reached the contemporary jazz charts. He followed in 2001 with Soul Purpose. Electrifying Smooth Jazz crowds since before the genre immerged, Alex Bugnon is a true master of the ivories.

When Prometheus warns Pyrrha and Deucalion that Zeus intends to send a great flood to destroy the Earth, they provision a chest containing all the knowledge that humanity will need after the waters recede. Water Relics envisions the Museum as the couple’s ark—its architecture holding all that humanity will need as sea levels rise. Thompson and Alonzo add another layer to the myth, imagining a world where Pyrrha and Deucalion’s people do not die in the flood, but instead evolve to live underwater. Come follow the story as the duo moves from Huber Court to the Hofheimer Porcelain Galleries to the Kaufman Theater—progressing from the shallows to the deep—and becoming immersed in their underwater world. The Five Points Community Farm Market is a project of the Five Points Partnership, a 501-c-3 non-profit formed in 2001. The Partnership is a grass-roots community organization based in the Norview section of Norfolk. The Farm Market began as a community project in 2002 in a vacant lot across from Norview Middle School, with volunteers selling Rodman’s peanuts and 3 small growers offering produce. We have been located on Church Street since May 3, 2008, and we continue to work to bring the city of Norfolk and surrounding cities fresh produce grown by local small farms, and we are always growing.
