Sat, Sep 6 - Old Beach Farmers' Market, Croc's 19th Street Bistro, 9:00 am-12:00 pm, on the corner of 19th Street and Cypress Ave, Virginia Beach, VA.  We feature seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables, meats (pork, bison, beef, chicken, turkey, sausages, charcuterie), eggs, seafood, cheeses, a wide assortment of baked goods (biscuits, pies, cakes, brownies and cookies), artisanal breads, and savory foods from local chefs (pasta, sauces, salsas, salads, tamales), soap, and flowers. Founded in 2008, Old Beach Farmers Market is run entirely by volunteers as an independent 501(c)6 organization. We support local family farms, watermen, and Virginia wineries. Sat, Sep 6 - St. Paul's Downtown Farm Market, Downtown Norfolk, 9:00 am-12:00 pm, 210 St. Paul's Blvd., Norfolk, VA. Between City Hall & Market St. across from Nordstrom at MacArthur Center. Sat, Sep 6 - Smithfield Farmers' Market, at the Bank of Southside Virginia parking lot, 9:00 am - 12 noon, Downtown Smithfield, VA. Named one of the "101 Best Farmers Markets in America" by the DailyMeal.com, Smithfield's Farmers Market is held every Saturday morning from April 5 through October 25. Now in its 14th season, each market features "Virginia Grown" - locally grown produce and items such as: beef, pork, chicken, eggs, peanuts, plants, herbs, baked goods, coffee, cheese, honey, barbecue, wood-fired pizza, ham sandwiches, handcrafted items and live music each week!

As a local, seasonal marketplace we will feature fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, free range chicken and turkey, fish and seafood, eggs, artisanal breads, scratch made cupcakes, brownies and cookies, with gluten free options available.  There is fresh seafood, organic and sustainably grown produce, berries and poultry products. 

Sat, Sep 6 - Olde Towne Farmers' Market, Portsmouth Historic district, 9:00 am-1:00 pm. Market with locally and organically grown veggies, fruits, nut, herbs, beef, chicken, eggs, seafood, artisanal breads, scones, pastries, cakes, pies, jams, jellies, salsas, fresh, dried and silk flowers, soaps, lotions, pottery, arts/crafts. Just outside the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center courtyard at Court and High Streets.

Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, join us for Food trucks PLUS children's activities and live entertainment by the Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways History Foundation, the City of Chesapeake and friends! Sun, Sep 7 - Ninth Annual Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, Town Point Park, 12-4:00 pm, Downtown Norfolk, VA. The Annual Mid Autumn Moon Festival celebrates a tradition dating back thousands of years in many Asian countries honoring a good harvest, youth, families, and community! The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is often compared to America's Thanksgiving tradition, and is a time honored Asian holiday that marks the end of the summer harvest. This festival incorporates a wide range of entertainment and programs that include storytelling, authentic Asian Ceremonial fashion shows, ribbon and dragon dancing, martial arts demonstrations, children's activities, musical and dance performances, children's lantern parade, and special appearances by the Moon Goddess.

Wed, Sep 3 - All the Way LIVE! The American Theater, 7:30 pm. All the Way Live is a community based, high-energy, monthly variety show featuring performances from established local and national artists as well as local amateur talent. Local artists showcase their talents while members of the community get involved and win prizes by competing in friendly amateur contests. All the Way LIVE! features two amateur competitions — a contest for adults and a separate category for children. Talent will be selected from auditions, and competitors will compete for cash prizes.


Thu, Sep 4 - Thursdays by the Lake, w/ 'Audio Sauce', The Mariners' Museum/USS Monitor Center, 6:00 pm, 100 Museum Dr., Newport News, VA. Join the museum for its annual concert series on the banks of Lake Maury, overlooking the full-scale replica of the Civil War ironclad USS Monitor. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the live music. Adult beverages, soft drinks and food for sale.


Fri, Sep 5 - Firehouse Bluegrass Benefit Concert, Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department, 7:30-9:00 pm, 15020 Carrollton Blvd., Carrollton. Proceeds benefit the all-volunteer fire/rescue service of Carrollton and nearby mutual aid districts in Smithfield and northern Suffolk. $5 admission. Your donations to this non-profit all-volunteer department serve the community by enabling the purchase of needed medical, rescue and fire fighting supplies and equipment. Hot dogs and soft drinks are available during the concert. Please bring your own chair.

Fri, Sep 5 - Rhythms on the Riverwalk Concert Series, w/ Glen Boswick & The Sounds of Swing Orchestra, Riverwalk Landing, 6:30 to 8:30 pm. We've stepped things up a bit, literally! This year's concert series features three Fridays of toe tappin' Jazz and Big Band followed by two Fridays of knee slappin' Country. Get your toes tappin' to fantastic sounds during this five-week concert series. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

Sat, Sep 6 - Annual Opera in the Park Concert, Town Point Park, Norfolk, 4-8:00 pm. Join us in Town Point Park as the sun sparkles over the waterfront and the stars of the Virginia Opera fill the air with beautiful music. The Annual Opera in the Park Concert is free and everyone is welcome! The curtains will rise and the melodious sounds of the Virginia Opera will take center stage as beautiful music fills the air along the Elizabeth River.

Sun, Sep 7 - Michael McDonald and Toto, Ferguson Center for the Arts, 7:00 pm, Newpoirt News. The Tidewater Opera Initiative celebrates its second season by staging two beloved one-act operas! Pucinni's classic pairing of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, the perfect blend of tragedy and comedy, is sure to delight both opera veterans and new-comers alike. Come experience the stunning vocal talents of young professional singers from the Tidewater region and beyond in the lush scenery of the Hermitage Museum and Gardens! Sun, Sep 7 - First Sunday Evenings, The American Theater, 7:30 pm, Phoebus, Hampton. The Venue on 35th, a small storefront performing arts space dedicated to showcasing local artists from many genres, will bring to The American Theatre a slice of local urban art every First Sunday Evening of the month. Since The Venue is the home of the Virginia Playwrights Forum, many of the First Sunday Evenings will be showcasing the Forum’s new play development program. Presented will be staged readings of scripts with talk-back sessions, workshops, and full productions of new full-lengths, one-acts and ten-minute plays written by VPF members. The Forum will also reserve some time to read and critique scripts from The American Theatre’s Mentor Program for high school students who want to write for the stage.
